back from pittsburg
went to pittsburg on saturday. it's tiresome. but visited two universities which are quite different from penn state. the voyage gave us some new ideas about american colleges.
u know, it's the first time for most of us to be in america. so penn state is the first american university we visited. the unisity is the center of the town and most people we see are having some connection (direct or indirect)with the univeristy. by contrast, cmu is located in an industrial city, as many chinese universities do, and with a rather smaller campus (i am not quite sure, because we did not stay there long), and the scenery there is far from that at penn state, but it can still have very advanced technology and outstanding majors and students and alumini. in my eyes, it's also quite different from its neighbor--pitt. the inspiration is: no matter where it is, a university must have its own characteristics and strong points. i donot know if my impression is correct 'cause i got it from a very quick glimpse. if anything wrong, pls. let me know. thanks a lot!
Interesting. Would you mind sharing some of your "new ideas about American colleges"? I'm curious...

Yes, I agree that State College is essentially a college town, whereas Pittsburgh was not built around the universities.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you mentioned the scenery at PSU; the calm atmosphere is one reason I really enjoy living in State College :-).
What a wonderful picture of children in the fountain!
